Ship Bottom

When you come across the causeway from Manahawkin, and travel across Bonnet Island and Cedar Bonnet Island, you arrive in Ship Bottom.

Ship Bottom appears to be the busiest part of Long Beach Island: due to it being the main access to the island, multiple businesses, and traveled roads.

Ship Bottom was named after a ship running aground in the early 1800’s due to heavy fog. A knocking from inside the hull of the overturned ship came from the only survivor, a young woman.
